The evolution of Richard’s signature STACKED style is evident in this commissioned Butcher Block inspired side table. Instead of using thousands of tiny blocks to create his recognizable STACKED forms, he utilized full sized scraps as larger building blocks. The salvaged Walnut is STACKED edge-grain laminated vertically to create the body of this table, with the final form sculpted by hand.
The table-top is made of Richlite, an extremely durable composite material made of layered paper.
As with all of Richard’s work, the entirety of this piece was built, sculpted, and finished entirely by his hands.

This STACKED + PATCHED Foyer Table is a grand transitional piece of furniture designed to elevate the entry foyer of any space. Made from salvaged Walnut, the base’s scalloped shape was created in Richard’s signature STACKED style. Think coil pottery…or 3D printing, but analog. Piece by individual piece, layer upon layer, he additively sculpts the form, controlling both the wall thickness while at the same time defining the overall profile. Once constructed, Richard reductively shaped the exterior using a variety of hand held tools, resulting in a honed quality with subtle undulations similar to that of hand built ceramics.
The PATCHED tabletop is an evolution of Richard’s STACKED process. However, instead of making thousands of tiny blocks from small scraps to create the form, he utilized full sized scraps as larger building blocks, adding tenons/joinery where necessary, ensuring the stability of the finished top. The result is reminiscent of a Gee’s Bend patchwork quilt.
As with all of Richard’s work, the entirety of this piece was built, sculpted, and finished entirely by his hands.

The STACKED table base (shown here in salvaged Mahogany) is created by hand, piece by piece, layer upon layer, carefully controlling for both the wall thickness as well as the overall profile. Once complete, the exterior surface is gently sculpted smooth using a variety of hand held tools, and the contrasting interior is left unshaped, accentuating the terraced contours. The final result is a finely honed finish with slight undulations, similar to that of hand-built ceramics. While the salvaged wood offers one-of-a-kind patterns reminiscent of basketry or mosaic tile work, the overall shape, scale, and material choice of Richard’s STACKED tables are all customizable upon request.

This STACKED Console Table has a stance similar to a grand hood ornament from a classic car with it’s elongated but balanced symmetry solidly perched on a single foot. This base was created by stacking thousands of individual scraps of salvaged Oak piece by piece, layer upon layer, carefully controlling both the wall thickness and the exterior profile. Once complete, the exterior surface was gently sculpted smooth using a variety of hand held tools, resulting in a finely honed finish with subtle undulations, similar to that of hand-built ceramics. The depth of color in the base is a result of the mixture of red and white oak including both virgin and old growth timber, and the application of an iron oxide wash. The reaction between the iron oxide wash and the tannins inherently found in oak, results in tones ranging from deep dark black to warm rich browns.
The STACKED base is capped with an elongated section of Nero Gold marble. The tones and veining in the Nero Gold perfectly compliment the iron-oxidized salvaged Oak used to create the base. Although this particular piece is one-of-a-kind, Richard’s Signature STACKED process is applicable to any shape, any function, any scale, and any material upon request.
Shown here in salvaged mixed-species Oak + Nero Gold Marble
